Presenting someone with a “challenge coin” is a long standing tradition within the US Armed Forces.The coins symbolize unit identity and brotherhood. Each piece usually bears unique unit symbols or mottos that identify the group in which they represent, and are often traded, presented, and collected between unit members. Challenge coins capture the very essence of military affiliation and instill pride to those that carry them.
The Comfort Crew created a special challenge coin that is based on this same tradition. We present these coins to students during our travels with the USO With You All the Way Tour.
When we give a child a challenge coin, it is our way to acknowledge that sometimes being a military kid is tough. We challenge them to use the strategies we give them, find ways to express what they are feeling, and to make a difference in their community.
