Meet this week’s Spotlight Athletes, Kristin Arteaga and Michael Gonzales. Kristin and Michael will both carry 35-40 lb rucksacks while running in the Austin Half Marathon this Sunday to support military kids.

Kristin Araega

Kristin Arteaga is an Army ROTC cadet at the University of Texas majoring in Human Biology/Pre-medicine. She wants to pursue a career in the army as a medical corps officer. She is on UT’s Army ROTC ranger challenge competition team and is also competing in the Bataan Memorial Death March this year with four other cadets. She has decided to ruck the Austin Half Marathon in support of The Comfort Crew. Kristin wants to support The Comfort Crew because she was the child of a military family and understands the difficulties that accompany a military lifestyle, especially as a kid. She hopes for the future success of The Comfort Crew, as she would love for such a program to thrive and possibly support her future family.

Michael GonzalesMichael Gonzales is an Exercise Science major and Army ROTC cadet at the University of Texas at Austin. He also competes on the Ranger Challenge team at UT and is competing in the Bataan Memorial Death March for the second year. He is seeking to raise awareness for the difficulties of children in military families by supporting the Comfort Crew during the Austin Half Marathon.

The Comfort Crew is excited to have Kristin and Michael join our team to let military kids know, We’re With You All the Way!

Kristin and Michael will receive loud cheers Sunday at the Comfort Crew water stop (water stop #2) from all of our 100 outstanding volunteers, including several of their fellow cadets. A big thanks to the following UT Army ROTC cadets for joining us at our water stop: Frye, Van Winkle, Strahan, Figurski, Maxwell, Stoop, A Brown, J Brown, Giambelluca, Ruiz, Portillo, Yoon, and Rice.
